June 2017 I began quite a challenging journey with a back injury (and my feet not operating at 100%). Fast forward to February 15th, 2018 and I’m 16 & 20 weeks post hallux rigdus and sesamoid bone removal on both my feet, and 8 weeks post endoscopic back L4 spinal stenosis and L5 discectomy surgery. Today was the day. The day to test jogging. I’d started doing easy spins on the bike about a week or so prior, and now it was time to test the jogging waters.
The doctors and PT all agree I still have strides to make when it comes to the back, so all of this is still a “test it out” type deal. I’ve remained cautiously optimistic, as attitude can change a lot. I can 100% confirm, a walk jog was completed by me for the first time in 8 months. The feet are continuing to heal, imagine a couple balloons anytime I finish jogging, but I’m cleared. It wasn’t pretty, I could feel the 8 months off, but I’m on my way back.
I’ve been getting through the majority of my workouts by doing Frigid Cryotherapy and normatec boots. I will take one day at a time and try to cherish each small victory. This bumper sticker below was finally applied to the car after the jog, I’ve had it since last year.
