Attempt at Ironman #6

I sit here in the condo in Mont Tremblant Quebec Canada on the eve of my attempt at Ironman #6 with heavy thoughts on my mind.  Ironman has always scared the **it out of me, and today is no different in that aspect.  The main difference is I’ve never gone into an Ironman wondering if I’ll even finish the bike.  Even through shoulder issues, no swimming for 6 weeks prior to IMLouisville, I never had a doubt that I’d power through.  I’ve even done an Ironman with a separated tailbone, IMAustria…..so I’m no stranger to toughing things out.  I’m hoping, praying, and turning it over to a higher power at this point.  I’m humbled, afraid, yet will find the inner strength that has always driven me in the past.  I’d be COMPLETELY satisfied to have a fun day and leisurely bike if that’s all my body will handle.  This country and course is absolutely beautiful, and I can’t tell you how much I hope to get to see it on my terms.

Someone said yesterday that at times it takes a village to get an athlete prepared to race, and I’m certainly no exception.  The past couple weeks have been extremely trying and emotional for me but luckily I have some great people in my corner.  There are so many people to name, and I’m sorry if I miss you but I’d like to publicly thank the following people for the past couple weeks support:

Heath Ramsbey-You are simply MY ROCK

All of these people and businesses literally have gone above and beyond and I thank you.

I’m writing this now in hopes to alleviate any undue expectations I’ve put on myself, but please don’t mistake this as giving up.   I’m a fighter and always have been.  Nothing would make me happier than to spend the day suffering out there with my best two friends in the world, Jeff Walthew and Sarah Parker.  It’s simply amazing the three of us have made it to this point, we have each had our own challenges.  I look ahead and know this is another bump in the road and lesson to be learned.  I’ve always said Ironman deserves respect, and I may or may not have given it the respect it deserved prior to race day this year.  My job is now another passion which has made juggling family work and triathlon a little trickier.  I have 5 Ironmen under my belt though, and you can never short change knowledge.  Knowledge is power.  With that being said I leave each of you with a thanks for following me and hopefully cheering me on.  I will do everything I’m capable of to make tomorrow Ironman #6.
